Minot Parks is bringing winter fun back to the Souris Valley!

Souris Snowfest will be on February 10, 2024, from 12:00 – 5:00 pm at Souris Valley Golf Course.

Cardboard Sled Race

Break out your cardboard and best costume and feel the rush of winter wind in your face in this year’s Souris Snow Fest cardboard sled race.

The Minot Park District as a part of the 2024 Souris Snowfest is hosting a cardboard sled race. The race will be on February 10th at 1:30, on the Souris Valley Golf Course sledding hill. This event will be snow dependent. Pre-registration is required online at minotparks.com.

Cardboard Sled Race Info:

  • Team costumes are encouraged! Remember to dress for the weather.
  • Teams can consist of 3 people. 1 designated racer and 2 pushers to get the sled started.
  • Teams should report to the SVGC clubhouse at 12:30 pm for registration.
  • The Best Design winners are awarded by a panel of judges and their decision is final.
  • Each class race is a heat start where a few racers begin at the same time. The first racer to cross the finish line as determined by the referee is declared the winner of that heat and moves on to the next round.
  • You must be in or on your sled when you cross the finish line.
  • Each class race immediately follows the preceding class heat.
  • Awards are presented after the final class race.

RULES:

  • This event will be broken into two age groups or more based on registrations.
    • Class 1: Age 17 and under
    • Class 2: Ages 18+
  • This event will consist of a heat format. The fastest time moves on to the next round.
  • Participants are also entered in the contest for Best Design, which is judged by an assembled panel before any speed races. Entries should be on-site and checked in by 12:45 pm.
  • The Class 1 race begins at 1:30 pm with each subsequent race taking place after the prior class. All racers are encouraged to be present for all races to ensure you do not miss your slot.
  • Awards are presented after all races.
  • Registration for the Cardboard Sled Race is held online at MinotParks.com. All sleds must be pre-registered to compete.
  • Teams should create their sled before the event and bring it with them. There are no available materials on-site.
  • Sleds must be free of sharp edges, pointy objects, or any other object deemed to be dangerous.
  • Only corrugated cardboard, tape, and glue may be used to construct your sled. The following materials are not allowed:
    • Corrugated plastics or other corrugated materials; non-corrugated cardboard (such as carpet tubes); cardboard that is bonded to other materials; epoxy-reinforced cardboard; or any other cardboard that raises concern.
    • Tar-based substances; epoxy glue; fiberglass resin; two-part varnishes or any other two-part substances; or glues that harden into solids that may be deemed dangerous or may potentially leave hazardous debris on the hill.
    • Screws or any sort of material; mechanical fasteners; nails; staples; or any other means of holding your sled together that may be deemed dangerous or may potentially leave hazardous debris on the hill.
    • If there are any doubts, don’t use it.
  • You must be able to stop your sled. You may be asked to explain or demonstrate this at the time of your inspection.

Big Ol' Dog Race

Lace up your pups’ racing boots and best costume for the first ever Souris Snowfest “Big ol’ Dog Race”.

The Minot Parks department is hosting the “Big ol’ Dog Race” as a part the 2024 Souris Snowfest taking place at the Souris Vally Golf Course on February 10th. The race will take place at 3:30pm on the fairway of hole #10. Prizes for speed and costume will be given away. Participation is free but pre-registration is required. “Big ol’ Dog Race” RULES

  1. All dog breeds over 25lbs are eligible for registration. Costumes are encouraged.
  2. You must be the registered owner of your dog to race. Proof of ownership may be required.
  3. You must be 18 or over to participate or have a legal guardian present. A valid driver’s license may be required to show proof of age.
  4. Dogs must be on a leash at all times (except during race).
  5. Owners must clean up after their dogs! Please bring along your own “clean-up” gear.
  6. Two people must be available during the heat: one at the race gate, and one at the finish line.
  7. You may use a toy or treat to entice the dog, but you must stay at each end until your dog comes to you! The toy or treat may not be thrown or tossed. No loud devices, laser pointers or anything that may be distracting to other dogs/owners.
  8. You may NOT run alongside the dog.
  9. Your dog may step out of bounds but must re-enter and completely cross the finish line, within the boundaries, without being grabbed. If the dog is touched by the handler before completely crossing the finish line, the dog will be disqualified.
  10. We reserve the right to disqualify any pet/owner for behavior deemed inappropriate.
  11. ALL JUDGE’S DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
  12. Failure to abide by the rules above will result in disqualification.
  13. You MUST have FUN!

Sledding

Families are encouraged to bring their own sleds and snowboards to have a fun time on our sledding hill. (Located on the sledding hill overlooking the driving range)

Tube, Ski, and Snow Shoe Rental

Are you looking for a new winter activity? We will have tubes, snowshoes, and cross-country ski rentals available. We will also have staff to help new skiers and give lessons. (All rentals will be located in the clubhouse)

Ski lesson times 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm.    

Snow Building

What is winter without making things out of snow? We will have snow paint, block makers, and all the fixings to make snow art, snowmen, and snow forts.

(located right in the back of the clubhouse)

Snowball Range

Are you an ace snowball thrower? Come test your accuracy and distance at the snowball range. We will have snowballs and targets to hit. (Located on the practice green of hole #10)

Chainsaw Art

Come watch Minot’s own Cody Carlson from grateful space art studio turn regular block of ice into beautiful works of art. He will be chipping, chiseling, and sawing for everyone to watch his process. (located right in front of the clubhouse)

Snow Golf

Playing golf in the winter is just as fun as playing in the summer, you just need different equipment. Using a wiffleball and special clubs you can test your winter golf skills with our 9-hole course we will have set up for anyone to play. (The course will start by the Hole #1 practice green)    

Snow Globe Making

What better way to warm up from a day of outdoor activities than to make a commemorative-themed snow globe. We will have all the necessary tools and equipment for a quick and cool art project to remember the day. (located in the clubhouse) 

Tractor Wagon Rides

Snuggle up with your family, grab a hot coffee or warm cocoa, and come get a relaxing wagon ride through the wonderland that is the golf course in the wintertime. (Pick up and drop off in the Driving range)
