Minot Park and Minot Noon Rotary Team Up to Offer Kayak Rentals
Minot, ND- The Minot Park District along with the Minot Noon Rotary Club are excited to announce Kayak Rentals will be available to Minot and the surrounding communities. The Minot Noon Rotary Club started a “Rotary for Recreation” campaign in October of 2020. Proceeds from T Shirts sales through the program allowed for the purchase of six kayaks, paddles, and life jackets.
“We are thrilled to donate these items to the Minot Park District to encourage outdoor activities like kayaking in our community. We look forward to our continued partnership and bringing more recreational activities to the region.” — Staci Kenney, Rotary 4 Recreation Committee Member
Kayaks are available to rent through the Minot Parks recreation office located at 420 3rd Ave SW. The cost is $10 per day per kayak. It includes paddle and life jacket. It is a first come first serve basis. You must have your own means of transportation as well as proper equipment to secure the kayaks while transporting, the Minot Park District does not supply this. Payment is due at the time of rental. Kayaks are available for pickup Monday – Friday 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm. Rentals are 24 hours, pick up is anytime after 12:00 pm and drop off is anytime between 8:00 am – 12:00 pm the following day. If past 12:00 pm the following day you will be charged for a second day at drop-off. There is no pick-up/drop-off on Saturday or Sunday. Friday rentals are 3-day rentals only ($30).
Ron Merritt, Executive Director of the Minot Park District said, “We are excited to work with the Minot Rotary Club on this project.” Says, Merritt. “The Souris River is a recreational opportunity just waiting for our community to enjoy. Our goal is to continue to grow this program with more recreational offerings along the Souris River.”
Recommended water recreation areas include East Side Estates: head East on 37th Ave SE from US-52, turn left onto 50th St SE, turn right on 33rd Ave SE, then continue East until road ends.
The canoe launch facility is behind the berm on the east area of the property. Thank you to Ward County Park Board for this access point.
Area lakes include Nelson Carlson Lake, Rice Lake and Lake Darling.
Currently, watercraft use is not recommended on the Souris River inside the City of Minot due to dangerous cofferdams.
